I wouldn’t begin a Client Reactivation effort by calling every inactive account in the database.

I’d first decide which relationships deserve personal attention.

I’d look at the history.

Was this once a good client?

How long were they with us?

What did they buy?

Was the relationship profitable?

Do we know why it became inactive?

Was there a problem that was never resolved?

And perhaps most importantly: Would we genuinely like to do business with them again?

That last question matters.

Not every inactive customer is an opportunity.

Some relationships ended for perfectly good reasons.

Once I knew which accounts warranted attention, I’d review enough history to make the call intelligently.

The objective isn’t to sound as though you’ve been handed a list.

It’s to demonstrate that the relationship mattered enough to understand before picking up the telephone.

Preparation changes the conversation.
