I’d spend more time identifying a small number of people whose clients, standards and way of doing business fit naturally with mine.
My own productive referral network in kitchen and bath was relatively small.
Roughly five to eight relationships eventually generated 50–60% of my business.
What mattered wasn’t how many people I knew.
It was the quality of the fit.
Did we serve similar clients?
Did I trust their work?
Would I feel comfortable putting my reputation behind them?
Would they feel the same about me?
Could we genuinely help one another’s clients?
A large network looks impressive.
A small network of the right people can be far more productive.
